Golden Ticket

A Golden Ticket as seen in the 2005 film.

A Golden Ticket is the pass that allows the owner to get into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.

Background[]

Five Golden Tickets were hidden in Wonka Bars and shipped out into countries all over the world. The search for them turned into a worldwide mania and each ticket find was a press sensation. The five children that eventually found them were Augustus Gloop, Mike TeaveeCharlie Bucket, Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregarde.

Inscription[]

The ticket says far more than could logically fit on it:

  • "Greetings to you, the lucky finder of this Golden Ticket, from Mr Willy Wonka! I shake you warmly by the hand! Tremendous things are in store for you! Many wonderful surprises await you! For now, I do invite you to come to my factory and be my guest for one whole day - you and all others who are lucky enough to find my Golden Tickets. I, Willy Wonka, will conduct you around the factory myself, showing you everything that there is to see, and afterwards, when it is time to leave, you will be escorted home by a procession of large trucks. These trucks, I can tell you are good, you will be loaded with enough delivious eatables to last you and your entire household for many years. If, at any time thereafter, you should run out of supplies, you have only to come back to the factory and show this Golden Ticket, and I shall be happy to refill your cupboard with whatever you want. " In this way, you will be able to keep yourself supplied with tasty morsels for the rest of your life. But this is by no means the most exciting thing that will happen on the day of your visit. I am preparing other surprises that are even more marvellous and even more fantastic for you and for all my beloved Golden Ticket holders - mystic and marvellous surprises that will entice, delight, intrigue, astonish and perplex you beyond measure. In your wildest dreams you could not imagine such things could happen to you! Just wait and see! And now, here are your instructions: the day I have chosen for the visit is the first day of the month of February. On this day, and on no other, you must come to the factory gates at ten o'clock sharp in the morning. Don't be late! And you are allowed to bring with you either one or two members of your own family to ensure that you don't get into mischief. One more thing - be certain to have this ticket with you, otherwise you will not be admitted.

(Signed) Willy Wonka

Founders[]

Augustus Gloop[]

He found his golden ticket by eating a ton of chocolate, as usual. He bit into a Nutty Crunch Surprise Wonka bar one day and could not decipher what the flavor was. When he pulled it out of his mouth, it turned out to be a corner of the ticket.

Veruca Salt[]

She was the only child who didn't find her own ticket. Her father made his peanut shellers rip open a ton of Wonka Bars until they found one in a Nutty Crunch Surprise Wonka Bar.

Violet Beauregarde[]

She found her golden ticket after switching from gum to candy bars. After she found it in a Chilly Chocolate Creme Wonka Bar, she went back to gum. She also found it because she was so arrogant and very competitive and put a lot of effort into her search.

Mike Teavee[]

He found his golden ticket in a Triple Dazzle Caramel Wonka Bar after using an technique to hack into Wonka's computers.

Charlie Bucket[]

He found the ticket in one Whipple-Scrumptious Fudge-Mallow Delight Wonka Bar.

Trivia[]

  • In the opening to the 2005 adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Willy Wonka can be briefly seen placing each golden ticket on a wonka bar. When he places the last ticket on a wonka bar, he taps it with his finger, this foreshadowed the fact that the last golden ticket will be found by Charlie Bucket.
  • In the book, the first time the second golden ticket was found it was proven to be a fake, this was before Veruca Salt found the real second golden ticket. In the 1971 and 2005 films, the fake ticket was moved from second to fifth to build up the atmosphere in the film adaptations. Before Charlie finds the last golden ticket, it was believed that the last golden ticket was found by Alberto Minoleta (Nazi Official Martin Bormann as seen in the photo) in Paraguay (1971) and a kid in Russia (2005), but were revealed that their tickets were fake.
